Dimmer Switch Troubleshooting Guide

Buzzing, flicker and limited range: causes and fixes.

Most dimmer complaints come down to a mismatch, not a fault.

Buzzing

Usually the bulb's driver reacting to the dimmer waveform. Try a different LED brand before replacing the dimmer.

Flicker at low levels

The dimmer's minimum load is above what your LEDs draw. A trailing-edge, LED-rated dimmer normally fixes it.

Limited range

Many dimmers have a trim adjustment behind the knob or plate; setting it correctly restores usable travel.

When to call us

Warmth at the switch plate, a smell, or a dimmer that works intermittently should be looked at rather than lived with.
